francois leger

CEO/President of FPL Food

François Léger is the founder and CEO/President of FPL Food, the largest privately owned, fully integrated beef processing facility in the Southeast. After more than 25 years of worldwide experience in the beef industry, Léger established FPL Food in 2004. Located in Augusta, Ga., FPL Food is now the 12th largest beef business in the U.S. The company wholesales traditional and specialty products to retail chains and foodservice operators in both domestic and international markets.

Léger’s two decades of industry experience includes knowledge of the beef and retail industry in France. He has also held various international and domestic senior-level positions at Keystone Foods, a global manufacturer of food products. A calculated risk-taker, Léger possesses the ability to build a team from the ground up and turn a business around with little or no capital investment. Working his way from the bottom to the top of the beef industry, Léger has filled the diverse roles of logistics manager, planning manager, financial controller, sales person, production director and senior vice president before reaching the peak in his journey to success as CEO of FPL Food.

Léger attended the French Institute of Management and is fluent in English, French and Spanish.

antoine bernier

Senior Vice President of Fresh Beef

Antoine Bernier grew up 90 miles north of Paris, France and now lives in North Augusta, S.C. Bernier has worked with FPL Food for more than seven years and currently serves as the vice president of sales. Prior to joining FPL Food, Bernier worked at Shamrock Foods Company as a beef enterprise buyer in Phoenix, Ariz.; Chicago Meat Group as a trader in Ariz.; and JBS as a boxed beef representative in Tolleson, Ariz. Bernier’s career in the beef industry was inspired by his family. His grandfather opened a slaughterhouse in 1958, and Bernier grew up assisting his father with the family business.

Besides playing with his kids, Bernier enjoys ultra-running, coins collecting and working on his old VW. His favorite beef cuts and dish? “The industry standard would be a ribeye, but I can go for a flat iron or a hanging tender as well. When I lived in the Southwest, I started appreciating thin meat like flap meat and skirt steaks. After buying a smoker, tri-tip and briskets became a favorite too.” 

REECE BORMANN

Director of Sales

Reece Bormann grew up in Tampa Bay, Fla., and now lives in North Augusta, S.C. He joined FPL Food in 2015, offering solutions for beef processors and distributors in his role as Director of Sales. Prior to joining FPL Food, he worked at JBS Packerland and Kane Beef. Bormann has a passion for sales and great steaks so after graduating from the University of South Florida, he pursued the opportunity to combine these predilections into a career and has worked in the beef industry since 2011. In his spare time, he enjoys coin collecting and playing the guitar. His favorite cut of beef is either a porterhouse or spinalis, preferably cooked medium-rare. His favorite beef dish is his wife's famous beef chili cooked with cubed ribeye.

Steve alberts

Merchandise Manager

Steve Alberts is a native of Franklin, Tenn., but now resides in Grovetown, Ga. Alberts started his journey in the beef industry more than 30 years ago. He has worked with FPL Food since its creation in 2004 and has known François Léger for more than 22 years. In his role as merchandise manager, Alberts focuses on all beef products supplied to retail customers. Much of his time is spent in the markets FPL Food serves and he specifically functions as the liaison between customers and the manufacturing facilities. Prior to joining FPL Food, Alberts worked for Keystone Foods for 25 years in multiple management roles and then worked for Equity Group-Ohio Division as the VP/Plant Manager.

During his free time Alberts enjoys boating, golfing and reading. His favorite beef cut is the beef tenderloin prepared medium rare and wrapped in bacon..."Heaven!!”

vince meegan

Business Development Manager

Vince Meegan grew up in Carlisle, Penn., and now resides in Evans, Ga. He began his career with FPL Food in 2015 and works daily with foodservice distributors and operators. Prior to joining FPL Food, he worked for Carolina Pride and Paramount Marketing Group. Meegan has worked in the food industry for more than 25 years. When not working, he likes golfing and playing with his kids. Meegan’s favorite beef dish is a porterhouse grilled to perfection with some olive oil, Himalayan salt and pepper.

Bradley Schmitt

Business Development Manager

Brad Schmitt, grew up in Louisville, KY. His hard work and dedication during his first years of his career took Brad from being an International Buyer of products such as chicken, seafood and beef at Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen in Atlanta,GA; to being in charge of developing the fresh and frozen meat programs at Lidl US in Washington DC. He is now our Business Development manager at our case ready facility in Thomasville, Ga. Some fun facts about brad: he went to the University of Dayton where he played football and won the 2007 D-IAA Mid-Major National Championship, he enjoys travelling to new places, visiting family and taking part of outdoors activities like hunting and golfing, and his favorite beef dish is by far the Tomahawk Ribeye, and then the Spinalis with that tender fatty bite.

Brett Jackson

Export Account Manager

Brett Jackson was born and raised in Athens, GA. He moved to California to finish high school and begin college then moved back to Athens to attend the University of Georgia. After graduating from UGA, Brett worked in production for Pilgrim’s and then moved to Colorado and started his export sales career for JBS USA’s Beef Division. He returned to Georgia in 2014 and worked for a commodity trading company in Atlanta before starting at FPL in August of 2017 to manage export sales. Brett enjoys Georgia football and goes to as many games in Athens that he can. He enjoys watching baseball and football on tv and spending as much time as he can with his wife and family. Brett can be found on the beach in Isle of Palms, SC or Grayton Beach, FL if he is not in the state of Georgia. His favorite cut of beef is the sirloin flap meat because it is easy to grill and very tender.
